Home Page Well here are the various project pages I've done. They're all
basically reflections of my interest in tinkering. The Original Foundry Page - My housemate Mark and I have had some adventures melting metal in the back yard. The
Waffle Iron - "You can make your own waffle iron?" Sure you
can. Some Christmas gift projects can get out of control. Halloween
Costumes - I discover my inner seamstress, producing an owl and a
pumpkin. The
Foam Cutting Robot - I spend some time building a CNC robot to cut
shapes out of foam. The Totoro
Step Stool - I build a whimsical wooden step stool for my son. The Lamp Page - A lamp I made
from a martini shaker, and four martini glasses. The Tuck Board - A
doodle on a scrap of paper in my wallet finally produces a fancy wooden
game board. Moomin Cookie Cutters - Bending some scrap copper sheet produces cute cookies. The Electric Bike - A visit to a friends house inspires a project to make an electric bike from surplus parts. The Electric Scooter - I swallow my high current motor controller design fears and build an electric scooter. (Before the current craze!) The Th!nk Electric Car - I spend two months living in the future. A tail about renting an electric car. Hoovercraft Exploits - An early vacuum powered hovercraft wreaks mayhem in the car port. The Mississippi Rafting - My Dad tells the story of how he and my sister built a raft with hand tools, and floated down the Mississippi. Pop
Pop Boats - Building tiny toy boats powered by the mysterious
interaction between flame and water in a tube. My
First Steam Engine - I build a little steam engine using hand
tools, and art store brass tubing. Early Pottery Page - This is an exuberant page about my early brushes with throwing pots on a wheel. Looking back the page is a bit embarrassing. Mechatronic Ruminations - A page talking about why many of my computer controlled whatsits die after taking their first steps. The CNC Can Punching Project - One morning in bed I have an idea for making magic lights out of scrap cans. The CNC Sherline Mill - I build a motor controller for 3 axis CNC with a Sherline Mill, but never even mount the motors. The CNC Lathe - I try hooking up some stepper motors to my lathe. What an old project. Look how primitive that controller is! The Robot page - I help my friend Simon Penny with his robot project. Glass
Blowing - I take a course in glass blowing. (XXX still has mangled
names)
